5 Reason why Buhari may not stop Fuel Importation

Image
One of the panacea to this seasonal oil crisis in the nation is if we could start refining our own crude locally without exporting it to  the foreign land, Unfortunately, we extract the crude to refine it in foreign land and then import the refined product, in higher price, for the Nigerians to use. The new President-elect, Gen. Buhari, will certainly face a difficult task in this area when he assumes office. Below are five obstacles that may hinder the new administration's attempts to stop fuel importation. If the government can surmount this challenges, we will make a headway. 1. Our refineries are not yet ready: With a refining capacity of over 450,000bpd that cannot even meet our domestic needs and operating at less than 30% mostly due to machine failure, our refineries are just not ready for the task ahead. So, it will be difficult to stop importation when we cannot provide the substance locally. 2. Government generates revenue from the process: Am talking about th

GEJ, OBJ now in Good Term

President Goodluck Jonathan has sent a rare message of commiseration to General Olusegun Obasanjo on the death of his sister, Adunni Oluniola Eweje-Obasanjo. This seems to have improved on his relationship with the former president. Since Obasanjo’s letter to the president went viral in December 2013, the president stopped all forms of felicitation or commiseration with the former head of state. Before then, though, Jonathan had “nothing but the greatest respect for Obasanjo” and he had said he would not probe his benefactor.  In a statement from the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Reuben Abati in 2013, stated that, “The president has nothing but the greatest respect for Chief Obasanjo’s very notable contributions to national growth and development over many years and far from taking offence or seeking retaliation, will always welcome objective criticism and advice from the very highly-regarded elder statesman,” .The relationship between the duo got sour

Cabinet Member that Contributed to GEJ Failure

Image
In few days, President Jonathan administration would be dismissed for a new regime to reign. But if we should take some moment on retrospection, The Nation took us through list of the Jonathan administration who contributed to his failure to win the second term ticket during his five years stay in Aso Rock.  Namadi Sambo Constitutionally, Vice President Namadi ought to be the coordinator of the nation’s economy but he was technically denied the opportunity by his boss. He was, however, in charge of the National Economic Council, the management of the power sector, the privatisation of government-owned companies, especially the power sector. Although seven new plants have been inaugurated under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPPs), only 4,700 megawatts will be added to the national grid. Two major challenges affecting the energy sector are poor gas supply and transmission of the megawatts. Persistent outage nationwide in spite of the over $16billion invested was one of th

'Go Ye Well, President Jonathan' - Dele Momodu bids GEJ farewell

Image
Dele Momodu, a veteran journalist and Ovation Magazine publisher, pens down his final note for President Jonathan in his Pendulum column in ThisDay . Our dear President, please permit me to write my last epistle to you as our leader and Commander-in-Chief. By this time next week, I expect you to have flown back to Yenagoa via Port Harcourt. How I wish I could have the opportunity of being on that last trip, not to mock you but to capture your swinging moods in those few moments of realizing that the end has come eventually. I would love to know how many of your big friends would take the pain to follow you or if most would abandon you to your fate and move on pronto to the new brides. Even as a writer with what I believe is vivid imagination, I’m not able to paint a picture of the sort of life or future that awaits you in Otuoke, Yenagoa, Abuja, Chad, Germany, Dubai or wherever you decide to hibernate in the short or long run. Let us give thanks to God no matter the
