Buhari sends names of Service Chiefs to National Assembly

The Senate and the House of Representatives on Tuesday announced the receipt of a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari, requesting the confirmation of Service Chiefs, recently appointed by him. President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, read the letter at plenary as the Red Chamber resumed after five-week recess. Mr. Saraki said the letter for confirmation of the appointments was in accordance with the provisions of Section18 (1) of the Armed Forces Act, 2004. At the house, the speaker, Yakubu Dogara, appointed a committee to screen the service chiefs. The president on July 13 announced the appointment of news service chiefs for the nation’s armed forces. They are Maj-Gen. Abayomi Olonishakin, Chief of Defence Staff; Maj-Gen. Tukur Buratai, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas, Chief of Naval Staff. Air Vice-Marshal Sadique Abubakar is new Chief of Air Staff, while Air Vice-Marchal Monday Morgan is Chief of Defence Intelligence. The president also appointed retired

NASS Crisis resolve: Gbajabiamila emerges as the new Majority Leader

Report reaching us said an House of Representative law maker representing Surulere Federal Constituency, Femi Gbajabiamila, has been named the new Majority Leader in the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly It could be recall that Gbajabiamila, who was the minority leader in the 7th Assembly, was the All Progressives Congress (APC) choice for the post of Speaker but was hijacked by Hon. Yakubu Dongara with the support of the People Democratic Party (PDP) members in the house. The crisis came to limelight when Dogara rejected the party’s demand that Mr. Gbajabiamila should be given the majority leader position which breaks the house into two factions, each insisting on its term for resolving the conflict. Also, Ado Doguwa was named chief whip and Buba Jibrin, deputy leader. Pally Iraise was named deputy whip. President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday met the representatives ahead of their resumption today which can b said to have brought the party's back to shape.

President Appoints New NSCDC Boss

News justing reaching us that President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu as the new Commandant-General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). This was disclosed in a statement by the Special Adviser to the president on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina on Friday who confirmed appointment. In the statement, Muhammadu hails from Muye in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State. Before the new appointment, he was an Assistant Commandant-General of the NSCDC. He holds a B.Sc in Sociology from the University of Sokoto and a Masters in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Fifty Persons dies in Damaturu Twin Blast

The Acting Director-General of Army Public Relations, Sani Usman, has confirmed that 50 persons were feared dead in Damaturu twin bomb explosion which occur at the early hour of today. Usman made this statement while addressing pressmen in Abuja on Friday, where he said the explosion were mastermind by two female suicide bomber, one elderly women and the other a teen of about ten-years-old which lead to the dead of 43 persons in first explosion and 17 persons in the second. According to him, “This is to confirm that there were two suicide bomb explosions today at about 7:40 a.m. in Damaturu, Yobe, in which two female suicide bombers – one elderly woman and a ten year-old girl -detonated the devices.   “It occurred at screening areas for intending Muslim worshipers at Layin Gwange, Damaturu and at Phase1, in front of former state secretariat, Damaturu.” He therefore assured citizens that the relevant authorities had brought the situation under control and vowed th
