Image
Few days to President Muhammadu Buhari into office, he declared his asset public amidst all odds from the masses from the opposition. In the statement made by PMB, made public by the Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Shehu Garba, he made mention of the 2 jeeps given by the Federal Government of Nigeria. Read the full statement below A statement by the Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu said “the documents submitted to the CCB, which officials say are still being vetted and will soon be made public, show that prior to being sworn in on May 29, President Buhari had less than N30 million to his name. Festus Keyamo Reacts to #BuhariGate, Gives Legal Implication

Image
A can of worms was open when the names of ‘highly placed’ Nigerians who got a share of the alleged $2.1b arms scandal started flying in the media. More disturbing was that President Buhari’s name was mentioned as a partaker of the loot. Though his media team did a good job of debunking the claim that Mr. President collected $300,000, they confirmed he received two jeeps, adding that it was his entitlement and he was even ‘prevailed upon’ to receive the vehicles. Popular Nigerian lawyer, Festus Keyamo has come out to clear the air on the legal implications of the President receiving the cars. Keyamo on his Twitter timeline said “The Law on d entitlements of former Heads of State says they're entitled to 3 cars each to be changed by d FG every 4 years + other benefits.” Adding that “The cars given to former Heads of State are ppties of d F.G as they must be returned & replaced every 4 yrs. They can't be declared as gifts.” “The law did not say which

Ribadu Accuses Ibori of $15million Bribe Offer

Image
A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, at the weekend said about $60billion looted funds left Africa yearly. He said ex-Delta State Governor James Ibori attempted to bribe him with $15million in two big bags, but he resisted. Ribadu said the bribe was, however, deposited in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to serve as evidence against him. The ex-EFCC boss, who spoke at the TEDx Talk in Berlin, Germany, said although “anti-corruption war is the most dangerous work, this is one war worth fighting.” In the video clip, released on You Tube by Ribadu Media Office and transcribed by our correspondent, Ribadu said: “Do you know that every year, $60billion leaves Africa illegally? This figure is from the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). “Billions are going out of Africa every year. I’m a Nigerian and I am from this paradoxical continent where today our most notorious export in Africa is stolen money.” He explained how

28 states are 'Technically Bankrupt' - Gov Ajimobi

Image
The governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has raised the alarm that about 28 states in the country might have gone technically bankrupt. Expressing similar sentiments, his Osun State counterpart, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, also said that the country was sitting on a tinderbox with its army of unemployed youths. The governors bared their minds at the 7th annual Lateef Femi Okunnu lecture, delivered by Ajimobi and titled: “State financing and over-dependence on oil: issues and challenge,” at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. The event was put together by the Muslim Law Students of OAU. Apart from the much discussed over-dependence on oil revenue, Ajimobi said that penchant for tax evasion by citizens, public and corporate entities, as well as corruption and disrespect for the rule of law were major challenges facing the states. To get out of the doldrums, he again reminded the country that agriculture value chain was a neglected potential cash cow that must be r

The former apex bank governor, said this during a programme entitled ‘How a cancer of corruption steals Nigerian oil, weapons and lives’, which aired on The PBS NewsHour, an American daily evening television show. The monarch said many dirty and shocking deals took place under the immediate past Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who is currently being investigated in the United Kingdom. His words, “In Nigeria, there is no accountability at all and that is why I think Nigeria’s corruption is worse than corruption in most parts of the world. It is the worst type of corruption. It’s stealing. “Frankly, I think a billion dollars under Jonathan a month was about what we were losing.” Speaking further, the emir claimed that during Alison-Madueke’s tenure as petroleum minister, people paid as low as $50m for access to crude

WHO IS OWNS IT, FALEKE OR THE APC – By David Alonge

Image
The breaking of the death of the Kogi state All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Prince Audu Abubakar, was shocking and unbelievable to all. The news throw the great people of Kogi and the Nigeria at large into state of quandary as such incident has never occurred in the history of the nation.    The confusion climaxed when professionals in the bar were divergent in the interpretation of the event (not the constitution as it has no clear provision for this). Some believed that since the deceased has a joint ticket with his running mate, Hon. James Faleke; automatically, Faleke should take up the Audu’s shoe to be flag the party in the supplementary election. A Lagos based lawyer, Festus Keyamo, explained that the legal effect of the APC candidate has been understood in different ways… He contended that Faleke is entitled to the votes cast for Audu because they both had a combine ticket Meanwhile, some believed that the party was the platform that

Reasons Why Muslims Bury the Dead Within 24 hours by ADERONKE QDEYERI

Image
Every man has two special days, the day of good which signifies the day we were born and the day of evil which signifies the day we will die. Hence, no one can remove or add a second to the time he was born and the day he will die Ustaz Mhikail Shittu, an Islamic Teacher in Marcaz Shababul Islam, Lagos in his own view said: Many people especially the non Muslims have a wrong notion about how we bury corpses in Islam. They believe we hasten to bury our corpses in Islam without following due process as laid down by Allah, which is totally untrue. There are procedures to follow in Islam before funeral is announced and carried out. In a case where a person dies suddenly, maybe as a result of heart attack (almaut fijihat) in Islam, the first thing we do in Islam is to get a doctor to confirm if the person is dead. If the doctor confirms that the person is dead, then we must close the person’s eyes and render prayers thus: “O’ Allah, forgive [name of the person] and elevate hi

Adele's ""25"" Album Breaks Record, Sells 2.3 million U.S copies in 3 days

Image
Grammy Award British singer Adele's new album ``25’’ has sold a record 2.3 million copies in the U.S. in the first three days of its release. The monster sales for the first three days mean Adele will break the first week sales record currently held by boy band NSync's 2000 album ``No Strings Attached,’’ which opened with 2.4 million copies. Adele's independent U.K. label , XL Recordings, last week decided to withhold ``25’’ from online streaming platforms such as Apple Inc's Apple Music service, privately owned Spotify and Google Play. The strong three-day sales indicate the lack of streaming availability did not hurt the album, which was released on Friday. And it is the first since her 2011 release ``21’’, which won six Grammys and sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. ``25’’ racked up more than 900,000 sales in Apple's U.S. iTunes store on its first day, Billboard said. The much-anticipated album has been driven by the success of its lea

Image
The untimely death of APC governorship aspirant in Kogi state Prince Abubakar Audu, who is also leading in yesterday governorship election in Kogi state have thrown up issues of what next the election umpire INEC will do. The Egomaniac Biafrans and Buhari Poisit - by David Alonge

Image
Three days after Lieutenant-Colonel Yakubu Gowon proclamation that divided Nigeria into 12 states on the 27th of May, 1967, Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu (of blessed memory) declared the Republic of Biafra; an independent state from the eastern region of Nigeria with their economy and currency. This was initially confronted with war by the Nigeria Government, but was later settled on a round table after two-and-half years on battlefield and claimed over 2 million lives. In Gowon ‘No Victor, No Vanquished’ speech, amnesty was offered to the rebels followed by the 3Rs (Reconciliation, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation) program. Reconciliation was needed then to bring back the nation’s unity and lost glory after the death of thousands of Nigeria soldiers through disintegration brought by wrong decision; reconstruction was meant to repair the extensive damages incurred on the nascent nation economy and infrastructures; and rehabilitation to restore the nations anthills into one

Facebook, The France Flag And Nigerians - David Alonge

Image
Barely 24hrs after the ill-fated incidence in the city of Paris by the vicious terrorist group, ISIS, that throw the Francophone lords into moment of mourning, Facebook – the number one social media platform – launched a campaign on the incident that claimed over 120 souls. It allows users of the social platform to mourn with the French citizens by changing their Profile with reflection of France National flag. Many Nigerians expressed disapproval of Mark Zuckerberg media, claiming that over 18,000 casualties have been recorded in Nigeria over the last 6 years of insurgency which Facebook have been indifferent about but predispose to promote a campaign for France over 120 lives claimed. Articles and comments were broadcast to condemn those who supported the campaign and Facebook. Some of my friends even frowned at me for joining the ‘racist’ social media campaign citing that the platform had never raised a campaign against any Nigeria attacks in the past, why am I so

The Paris Bloodbath, Time for the World to Act, by David Alonge,

Image
With sober heart and deep reflection have I sympathize with the horrific attack that claimed over one hundred innocent souls in Paris, the capital of France. It is a pity that the bedeviled terrorist succeeded in their nefarious and malevolent act hiding under the auspice of the decent religion of peace, Islam, purposely to gain the world purview. In same stand with Fani-Kayode in his ‘carnage in Paris and the great paradox’ article publish today that the American and the European associates took wrong strategy in tackling the issue at the initial; however, the world should stand in unison to wrestle this bastardly terror that is increasingly defacing the human race. Solidarity should be shown locally and internationally to condemn the evil act of the jihadist fanatics with all available paraphernalia. This is no time to play politics with issues that concerns human lives, politics should be wade aside and everyone should come on the round table to brainstorm on strategies an
